The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean
Counties distributes approximately 7 million pounds annually through a network
of 260 feeding programs, such as soup kitchens, food pantries, and shelters.
One out of every ten people living in Monmouth and Ocean Counties receives food
from The FoodBank.
Since Superstorm Sandy struck the
Jersey Shore on October 29, 2012, The FoodBank has been actively involved in
the work to bring relief and comfort to the communities we serve.
Working shoulder to shoulder with
relief agencies, government programs and others involved in the recovery effort,
we distributed food for approximately 1 million meals.
Here are some of the ways The
FoodBank has helped in the recovery process:
- We provided food for hot meals prepared by emergency feeding programs for displaced residents in communities across Monmouth and Oceean Counties.
- Our Culinary Kitchen prepared hot meals daily for churches and civic organizations serving storm-stricken communities.
- Disaster kits and other critically-needed items were delivered to some of the region’s most hard-hit areas.
- We are working to rebuild agencies that were damaged by the storm. Several food pantries incurred heavy losses of food and equipment. Many others are coping with the influx of hundreds of additional families in need of emergency food.
Our work is far from over. Helping
our neighbors as they rebuild their homes and their lives will take months, if
not years. Our most critical need at this time is financial support – a
$1 donation can provide 3 meals. In partnership with all of our
supporters, we will continue to deliver food and hope to all those in need in
Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
