Asia Foundation Leverages SCM4Good to Facilitate Aid Efforts After Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda

Aidmatrix partner, The Asia Foundation, is helping the Tacloban community replenish its educational resources following Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda. The Asia Foundation’s ‘Books for Asia’ program recently transported more than 8,000 children's books to Tacloban in the Philippines.

"The book donation event, arranged by the Foundation’s Books for Asia program with support from American publishers and the Australian Government, donated over 8,702 children’s books to 11 elementary schools in the typhoon-ravaged city." - Anna Bantug-Herrera, The Asia Foundation’s associate director in the Washington, D.C., office, in her recent Notes from the Ground blog.

The Asia Foundation launched 9 locations on SCM4Good in just 6 short months in 2013. Aidmatrix's SCM4Good is helping facilitate their Books for Asia program that moves “nearly one million brand-new books into the hands of students, educators, and local and national leaders in 19 countries annually," according to The Asia Foundation.

Our Partner Dallas Animal Services Having Empty the Shelter Day this Saturday

Our fantastic partners at Dallas Animal Services are hosting a "Empty the Shelter Day" this Saturday, August 16 from 10am-5pm. They are trying to find wonderful homes for 100+ animals. Empty the Shelter Day is also being hosted by animal shelters throughout the DFW Metroplex.

Empty the Shelter is an effort to find homes for hundreds of pets across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.  An unprecedented number of cities and animal shelters, both municipal and non-profit, throughout North Texas have joined forces to offer free adoptions that one very special day. This is the largest adoption effort ever held in North Texas and what the partners hope to be the largest multi-city, multi-county adoption event in the United States.

The event is Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.  Our partners at Dallas Companion Animal Project will be supplying a corp of volunteers to assist the staff at Dallas Animal Services.  DAS is hoping to clear their entire adoption area of dogs and cats – more than 100 pets in just 7 hours.  Add adopted pets will be spayed or neutred, vaccinated and microchipped, receive 30 days free pet insurance, as well as a $10 Hollywood Feed gift card and a free ID tag.

The event is sponsored by the ASPCA, NBC5 and Telemundo, and will be covered by all local media outlets.

If you are interested in adopting a pet, please think about stopping by on Saturday, and please let your friends and relatives know as well.  You can share event information directly from the DAS Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/dallasanimalservices or the DAS Twitter feed.

NASEDoVoC Chairman Dante Gliniecki Visits Aidmatrix to Plan Next Generation of NDMN

Dante Gliniecki, Statewide Volunteer Coordinator at Missouri State Emergency Management Agency and Chairman of NASEDoVoC (National Association of State Emergency Donations & Volunteer Coordinators) recently visited the Aidmatrix office. Aidmatrix is currently collaborating with NASEDoVoC on the current disaster relief plans for 2014 and on the exciting future of the National Donations Management Network (NDMN). His visit was scheduled to discuss and plan the next generation of the NDMN and Aidmatrix's SCM4Giving.

Dante spoke with the entire Aidmatrix staff during the morning of his visit. He shared with us many great thoughts and perspectives on how Aidmatrix has been an integral partner to himself and the VOAD community in disaster relief in the United States, and how NASEDoVoC and Aidmatrix are working towards an exciting future.

The NDMN has been effectively used for relief efforts in more than 70 disasters in past 7 years. NASEDoVoC’s mission is to coordinate with partner organizations, and promote greater understanding, expertise, mutual support and information sharing within the ranks of volunteer and donations coordinators.

"That's why I'm here. To look for ways that we can work together to keep the system strong. To support the [Aidmatrix] Foundation and keep the system working in the future." - Dante Gliniecki

The NDMN connects more than 49 U.S. States and 3 US territories & city governments with 3,000+ Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) members to create a network for immediate response in the event of a disaster. These parties are able to share information and donations online in real-time, using supply chain management, volunteer management and fundraising technologies.
