Today I had the pleasure of speaking to a group of Masters
Degree students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology as well as Harvard
and Tufts University as part of a Humanitarian Logistics program hosted by
MIT’s Dr. Jarrod Goentzel – a leading researcher and advisor in the field. The students approach the humanitarian sector from a variety
of disciplines – policy, public health, engineering and supply chain to name a
few. They have been examining the Humanitarian Logistics arena with the
support of experts from the NGO world as well as the business and government
sectors.
I was able to share our team’s perspective on technology’s
ability to revolutionize the humanitarian supply chain and raise the standard
of living for those most vulnerable. The students asked challenging
questions and also shared some of their own research. Their projects challenged my thinking and addressed some of
the key challenges in coordinating, prioritizing and tracking issues in
humanitarian relief. It was inspiring to have these future leaders take such a
strong interest in logistics as a key to revolutionizing our approaches to
improving our world.
