We extend our deep appreciation and gratitude to the many nonprofit organizations on the ground helping with relief efforts for Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda. Those who wish to offer support can do so by donating to the following nonprofit organizations that are providing aid to those impacted:
We have updated the HelpBridge application, available at www.microsoft.com/helpbridge, to call out opportunities for those in the U.S. who wish to donate via text-to-give to response organizations providing relief to communities impacted by Typhoon Haiyan.
Microsoft is also working with nonprofit organizations, government responders, and customers and partners to determine technology and services support needed to help with business and infrastructure challenges.
Four deployment kits from emergency.lu, which include a version of the Skype client optimized for low-bandwith organizations, have been dispatched to the Philippines to provide connectivity for ongoing humanitarian operations. Microsoft Lync is also included, which response teams on the ground can use to coordinate relief efforts. Emergency.lu is a communications solution for global disaster relief and humanitarian missions, developed and implemented as a partnership between the Luxembourg Government and a consortium of Luxembourg companies and organizations: SES TechCom, Hitec and Luxembourg Air Rescue. Skype and Ericsson Response are technical partners for emergency.lu. More information can be found here.
Microsoft is also supporting NetHope's response efforts on the ground through monetary donations and with 400 Microsoft Office license donations to support their operational procedures.
Interactive maps are available from Esri, providing imagery, situational information, and crowd sourced social media data. These maps can be used by citizens and first responders for real-time visuals within the impacted area.
We will continue assessing the needs of those in the impacted areas and provide support where we can.
