Aidmatrix Responds to Cyclone Phailin

The Eastern coast of India was hit on October 11 by Cyclone Phailin, a category 4 storm. The states most impacted by the storm were Odisha, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.  The last storm of this magnitude to hit the area was in 1999, when nearly 10,000 people lost their lives.

More than 800,000 were evacuated from the coast in 2 days time - an amazing feat which saved lives. However, the coastal devastation is significant. The need for food, clean water, first aid kits, mosquito nets, tents, and more was great. As families emerged from their temporary shelters the realty of the damage set in, leaving countless with nothing left but their lives.

Aidmatrix President & CEO Gov. Scott McCallum and Aidmatrix India team member
Our President & CEO Gov. Scott McCallum was visiting our Aidmatrix India Offices prior to the Cyclone. He, along with the rest of the Aidmatrix India team, was activated with our program supporting India’s National Disaster Management Authority, their partner agencies and supporting corporations. These partners utilize the Corporate Disaster Resource Network (CDRN) to coordinate relief (www.cdrn.org.in). The India Food Bank Network, and specifically the Delhi FoodBank, were also activated to help the relief efforts. All of these Aidmatrix programs are leaning forward and engaging with the relief community.

Other international relief partners like Save the Children, CARE and Catholic Relief Services are also providing aid in-country.

Financial donations can be made through our Virtual Aid Drive.

In-Kind donations can only be made within India and are not to be sent internationally at this time.
Additional information on Needs will be posted as the situation progresses.

More updates to follow on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and www.aidmatrix.org.
