Category 5 Cyclone Phailin Threatens East Cost of India

The Eastern coast of India is preparing for Cyclone Phailin, currently a category 5 storm, that is scheduled to make landfall tomorrow October 12  -- less than 24 hours from now. The states most likely to be impacted are Odisha, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.  The last storm of this magnitude to hit the area was in 1999, when nearly 10,000 people lost their lives.

Our Aidmatrix India Offices have been activated as well as our program supporting India’s National Disaster Management Authority, their partner agencies and supporting corporations. These partners utilize the Corporate Disaster Resource Network (CDRN) to coordinate relief (www.cdrn.org.in). The India Food Bank Network, and specifically the Delhi FoodBank (and Aidmatrix program) are leaning forward.

Other international relief partners like Save the Children, CARE and Catholic Relief Services are also making preparations.

Donations can be made to these relief partners through our Virtual Aid Drive

Additional information on Needs will be posted as the situation progresses. More updates to follow on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and www.aidmatrix.org.
